Undo a change

Put back an earlier version of a page, or the presets, variables and Theme Builder templates as they were before a change.

Updated 9 October 2026

Every change your AI tool makes can be undone, and the undo can be undone too. Pages and site-wide design settings are saved differently, so each has its own way back.

Page versions

Every time the tool builds a page, replaces a page, builds a Theme Builder layout or restores a version, WordPress saves the result as a revision. The version is marked as made by the AI, so you can tell it apart from your own edits.

To go back, ask the tool to list the versions of a page. Each one shows its date, who saved it and whether the AI made it. Then ask it to restore the one you want.

Show me the earlier versions of the About page, then restore the last one I saved myself.

  • The page as it was before the restore is kept as a new version, so you can undo the undo.
  • The account must be allowed to edit that page.
  • Restoring a Theme Builder layout also needs the Theme Builder permission.
  • WordPress revisions must be on for the page. If your site turns them off, there are no versions, and the tool says so.

You can also use the revisions on the page’s edit screen in WordPress. They are the same versions.

Design snapshots

Before every preset, variable or Theme Builder change, the plugin saves a snapshot of everything in that group: all presets, all variables including global colours, or all Theme Builder templates. It does the same before every restore. Every snapshot from the last 7 days is kept, and always at least the newest 20 of each group, up to 100. When the assistant changes several presets or several colours at once, as in a rebrand, it saves them in one go, so the whole change is a single snapshot you can undo in one step.

To go back, ask the tool to list the snapshots. Each one shows its date, who made the change and a line saying what the change was. Restoring a snapshot puts the group back as it was before that change. Because it snapshots first, the restore can be undone too.

List the variable snapshots, then restore the one from before the colour change.

A few things to know:

  • A snapshot covers the whole group, not one item. Restoring one from several changes ago also undoes the changes made after it.
  • A Theme Builder snapshot covers each template’s settings, its conditions and which layouts it uses. The content of a header, body or footer comes back through page versions, using the layout’s id.
  • A deleted variable is removed, not archived the way Divi’s own builder does. Restore a snapshot to get it back.
  • Only a user with the matching Role Editor permission can restore a snapshot. Presets, variables and the Theme Builder lists them.

Look before you change

Presets, variables and Theme Builder changes can run as a dry run. The tool shows what would change and writes nothing. Restoring a snapshot can run as a dry run too, and shows which items would be added, removed or changed. Ask for one before a change that touches many pages.

Reload open builder tabs

A Visual Builder or Theme Builder tab that was open before the change can overwrite it the next time you save in that tab. This applies to presets, variables and templates. Reload any open builder tabs after the tool changes them.
