Fix connection problems

What each line of the site check means, and what to do when connecting or saving fails.

Updated 8 October 2026

Start with the Check your site step of Divi → MCP for Divi 5. Each line is either fine or a problem with a fix.

The site check

Divi 5 is not active. The assistant has nothing to build with. Activate the Divi theme, version 5.14 or later. WordPress also shows a warning about it.

Divi is too old. The site runs a Divi 5 release older than 5.14. Update Divi. Until then the assistant cannot build pages, and its tools say why.

The site uses plain HTTP. AI tools only sign in over HTTPS. Connect with an application password instead.

Permalinks are set to Plain. Sign-in needs clean URLs. Choose any other option under Settings → Permalinks.

Some AI tools may not find the sign-in page. Your server does not pass /.well-known/ requests to WordPress. Most tools fall back to another address, so try connecting anyway. If sign-in fails, ask your host to send /.well-known/ requests to WordPress, or use an application password.

When connecting fails

This connection request cannot be completed. WordPress shows this page when the sign-in request is wrong, for example when the app is not registered with the site or its return address does not match the one it registered. Start the connection again from your AI tool.

The tool cannot reach the site. claude.ai, ChatGPT and the Claude desktop app connect from the internet. A site that only runs on your own computer cannot be reached. Use a tool that runs on your computer, or an application password.

The password was not created. Reload the page and try again, or create one under Users → Profile → Application Passwords and paste it in.

Application passwords are turned off. WordPress only allows them over HTTPS, and a security plugin can also disable them.

Copying was blocked by the browser. Select the text and press Ctrl+C, or Cmd+C on a Mac.

Connected apps could not be loaded. Click Refresh. If it keeps failing, reload the page.

The tool was working and stopped. Check Connected apps. If it is gone, or you disconnected it, connect again. Tools unused for 30 days also have to sign in again. See Disconnect an app.

When a save fails

Validation failed. Nothing was written. The page has an error, such as a module that is not on your site or a column outside a row. The tool gets the list and can fix it.

You are not allowed to create pages, edit this post, publish pages or upload files. The account that approved the tool lacks that permission. For publishing, ask for a draft and publish it yourself.

The saved content differs from what was sent. A content filter changed the page on save. Use an account with the unfiltered_html capability.

Only JPG, GIF, PNG, WebP and AVIF images can be sideloaded. The image address must point to one of those file types. Addresses on private networks are refused.
