# What the assistant can do

The 29 tools the plugin gives your AI tool, in plain words, and what it cannot do.

Updated 9 October 2026

Once connected, your AI tool can build and edit Divi 5 pages. It can also change your presets, variables, global colours and Theme Builder templates. It builds from native Divi 5 modules, the same ones the Visual Builder uses, so you can open and edit everything in Divi afterwards.

It works as the WordPress user who approved it. If you cannot do something on your site, neither can the tool.

## Looking things up

- List the modules on your site.
- Read one module’s settings. The tool asks for a module by name, such as the button module.
- Read your global colours and variables, so it can use your palette instead of making up colours.
- Read your presets, with the settings inside each one.
- Read your Theme Builder templates, with the pages each one covers and what its header, body and footer do.
- Read the authoring guide, the rules for how Divi 5 stores settings such as spacing, borders and fonts.

The guide is built from your installed Divi’s own module definitions, so it matches your Divi version. It covers Divi’s own modules. For a module from another plugin, the tool can still ask for that module’s settings by name.

## Building and editing pages

- Build a new page. It creates a page with a title and a status of draft, pending or publish. The default is draft. Publishing needs a WordPress account that is allowed to publish pages.
- Replace the content of an existing page. This rewrites the whole page, not one module. The account must be allowed to edit that page.
- Add an image. The tool gives WordPress the web address of a public image, and WordPress adds it to the media library. Only JPG, GIF, PNG, WebP and AVIF files work, and the account must be allowed to upload files. WordPress refuses addresses on private or internal networks.

## Presets, variables and colours

The tool can create, change and delete presets, both module presets and option-group presets. It can do the same for variables of every Divi 5 type, and for global colours.

These changes apply to the whole site. [Presets, variables and the Theme Builder](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/presets-variables-and-theme-builder/) explains the permissions they need and the guards around them.

## Theme Builder

- Create and change templates, including which pages each one covers.
- Build or replace a header, body or footer. The layout is checked the same way a page is.
- Delete a template.

## Checking

- Validate a design without saving anything.
- Preview a saved page or an unsaved design, and list the modules that came out empty.
- Check a saved page for problems.

[How a page is checked](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/how-a-page-is-checked/) explains what these look for.

## Undo

The tool can list the earlier versions of a page and put one back. It can also list the snapshots taken before preset, variable and Theme Builder changes and put one back.

[Undo a change](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/undo-a-change/) explains both.

## What it cannot do

The plugin gives your tool these 29 tools and no others. There is no tool to delete pages, install plugins, manage users or change WordPress settings. Apart from presets, variables, colours and Theme Builder templates, it can only touch the Divi content of pages and the media library.

The checks prove a page is built correctly. They do not judge how it looks, so open the page and look.

## Asking for what you want

- Say what the page is and what goes on it, as in the sample prompt on the connection screen.
- Ask for a draft first, then publish it yourself after you have looked.
- Ask it to use your global colours.
- Give images as public web addresses.
- Ask it to run the check after it saves, and tell you what it found.
- For site-wide changes, ask for a dry run first. It shows what would change and writes nothing. [← PreviousDisconnect an app](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/disconnect-an-app/)[Next →How a page is checked](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/how-a-page-is-checked/)
