# Connect your AI tool

Sign in from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor in your browser and click Allow.

Updated 9 October 2026

Your AI tool needs one thing from your site: its MCP URL. The tool opens WordPress in your browser, you sign in and click Allow, and the tool is connected. You never copy a password.

## Before you connect

Open Divi → MCP for Divi 5 and finish the Check your site step. It shows whether Divi 5, HTTPS and permalinks are right, and whether AI tools can find the sign-in page. If a line is marked as a problem, see [what the site check means](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/fix-connection-problems/).

## Pick your tool

In the Connect your tool step, pick the tool you use. The screen fills in your site’s real MCP URL, so copy the command or text from there. The examples below show the shape only.

For claude.ai or ChatGPT in the browser, pick claude.ai or ChatGPT. The screen shows the connector URL with a Copy button and the steps for that app. Both need the site to be reachable from the internet over HTTPS, and the screen warns you if it is not.

Prefer not to type it yourself? Switch from Add it myself to Let my AI Assistant do it. The screen gives you a ready-made message to paste into an assistant that can edit files on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor’s agent.

### Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http divi https://your-site.com/wp-json/mcp-for-divi/v1/mcp

Then start Claude Code, run /mcp, pick divi and choose Authenticate.

### Claude desktop app

- Open Settings → Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector and paste your MCP URL.
- Click Connect.

Claude connects from the internet, so the site must be publicly reachable. A site that only runs on your own computer will not work here.

### claude.ai in your browser

- Open claude.ai and go to Settings → Connectors.
- Add a custom connector and paste your MCP URL.
- Click Connect. WordPress opens in your browser. Sign in and click Allow.

claude.ai connects from the internet, so the site must be publicly reachable. A site that only runs on your own computer will not work here.

### ChatGPT in your browser

ChatGPT needs developer mode before it takes a custom connector.

- Open chatgpt.com and go to Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced.
- Turn on developer mode.
- Create a connector, paste your MCP URL and choose OAuth for the sign-in.
- ChatGPT opens WordPress in your browser. Sign in and click Allow.

Like claude.ai, ChatGPT connects from the internet, so the site must be publicly reachable.

### ChatGPT Codex

Run this in your terminal:

codex mcp add divi --url https://your-site.com/wp-json/mcp-for-divi/v1/mcp

Then run codex mcp login divi.

If you add the server in the Codex app instead, its MCP settings screen has no Connect button. After you add the server URL, open a terminal and run codex mcp login once, followed by the name you gave the server. It opens the WordPress sign-in in your browser.

### Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or to .cursor/mcp.json in your project:

{  "mcpServers": {  "divi": { "url": "https://your-site.com/wp-json/mcp-for-divi/v1/mcp" }  } }

Then open Cursor’s MCP settings and sign in when it asks.

## Sign in and click Allow

Each tool opens a WordPress page titled Allow (tool name) to work on (your site)? Sign in if WordPress asks. The page says the tool will work as you, with your permissions, and that it can:

- read the site’s Divi modules and global colours
- create and edit Divi pages
- upload images to the media library

Click Allow to connect it, or Deny to refuse. Changing presets, variables and the Theme Builder needs extra permissions, which [are explained here](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/presets-variables-and-theme-builder/). After you answer, the browser returns to the tool. The tool can use only the MCP URL. It cannot use the rest of your site’s WordPress API.

## Try it

The Try it step suggests a first prompt:

Use the divi tools to build a draft page called “Test” with a hero section: a heading, a short paragraph and a button.

It creates a draft, so nothing goes live until you publish it. Your tool now appears under Connected apps, where you can [disconnect it](https://divicake.com/docs/mcp-for-divi/disconnect-an-app/) later.
